Darius Milhaud
Darius Milhaud was a French composer, conductor, and teacher born in Marseille in 1892. He was a member of Les Six — also known as The Group of Six — and one of the most prolific composers of the 20th century. His sophisticated compositions have influences beyond the classical world - from jazz to Latin music, make extensive use of polytonality. A modernist in the classical sense, he taught many future pop, jazz and classical composers, including Burt Bacharach, Dave Brubeck, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis among others. Milhaud was also a founding member of the Music Academy of the West summer conservatory and a teacher at Aspen Music Festival & School.
