Jane Bunnett is a Canadian musician known for her superb flute and soprano saxophone work and her ongoing involvment with contemporary Cuban music and musicians (along with her husband, Canadian trumpet stalwart Larry Cramer). A tireless social activist, she was raised in Toronto, originally studying piano but switching to winds in the mid-1970s. After intense playing and recording in an edgy jazz vein, leading to the albums In Dew Time, New York Duets, Live at Sweet Basil, she and Cramer travelled to Cuba to play and record with a line-up of premier Cuban musicians in Spirits of Havana. A string of Latin albums culminated in 2002's triumphant Cuban Odyssey, capturing a Grammy (Latin Jazz Album) and Juno (Global Album). Her dedication and successes have continued unabated. In 2004 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
