Red Garland
Red Garland came to prominenece in the jazz world during the 1950s as the regular pianist with the Miles Davis Quintet. An accomplished accompanist and block chord practitioner, he was influenced by Davis to develop a style that aligned with that of Davis' favourite pianist, Ahmad Jamal. The resulting sound spread around jazz, adopted by players from the modest club scene to the international concert hall. In fact, his sophisticated techniques were perfect for the latter.
