Stan Getz
Largely self-taught, Stan Getz honed his feather-light tone, faultless melodic conception and cast-iron work ethic into a career that stretched from Jack Teagarden to Woody Herman to Dizzy Gillespie to Chick Corea (who worked for him). Along the way he introduced the bossa nova to the Billboard chart and won five Grammy awards. Personally complex and erratic, Stan's towering musicality cast a long shadow in the 20th century.
