Cleo Laine

Dame Cleo Laine, Lady Dankworth DBE (born  28 October 1927) is an English singer and actress known for her scat singing. She is the widow of jazz composer and musician Sir John Dankworth and the mother of bassist Alec Dankworth and singer Jacqui Dankworth.  In a career that stretched over seven decades, she forged a uniquely charismatic style of singing that influenced and informed several generations of vocalists. She moved with seeming ease from jazz clubs to West End stages to the world's major concert halls performing standards, adaptations of Shakespeare, light ditties and cutting edge stage scores... all with her signature charm and virtuosity.  Her collaborations included those with Nigel Kennedy, John Williams, Julian Lloyd Weber, Frank Sinatra and the Muppets. This clip features Cleo Laine in a relaxed counterpoint with her husband, John Dankworth:

Derek Jewel of the Sunday Times called her, "quite simply the best singer in the world."
