Classic Jazz
Classic Jazz is foundation jazz from the 1920s to the 50s - linking the traditional roots to bebop, cool, fusion and beyond. It includes the big swing bands of Chick Webb, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey; smaller combos of Louis Armstrong, Benny Carter, Jonah Jones & Jack Teagarden as well as soloists like Fats Waller and Art Tatum. I'm constantly amazed by the stuff that pops up on these recordings - melodies, harmonies, rhythms that are as modern as today; brilliant-but-forgotten performers with immense talent who take your breath away; lyrics that hit home in any era...
