Cliff Leeman (September 10, 1913 – April 26, 1986), widely known as "Mr. Time", was born in Portland, Maine.  Starting out playing percussion with the Portland Symphony at 13, he soon found his true forte with swing.  A consummate technician, he held down some of the top drum chairs of the day with the bands of Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Charlie Barnet and Woody Herman.  After further stints with the Casa Loma Orchestra and Bob Chester's big band, he spent most of the 1950s doing radio and TV work - even recording on some of the early Bill Haley & His Comets hits.  The 1960s & 70s found him settling into popular trad groups: Bob Crosby, The Dukes of Dixieland, Joe Venuti, Kings of Jazz and World's Greatest Jazz Band.  Lacking the charisma and showmanship of Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich, Cliff Leeman still takes his place as one of the great percussionists of the swing era.
