Arnold Schoenberg

Arnold Schoenberg

Born in Vienna, Arnold Schoenberg was one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.  His use of atonality and the twelve-tone system led others to explore the same ground and his intense views on aesthetics have followers even today. From 1933, he lived in the United States, becoming a citizen in 1941.  His devoted students included Alban Berg, Anton Webern, John Cage and Oscar Levant.
