Benny Goodman was the best-known clarinetist of the 20th century. His big band set off the mid-1930s rage for swing. His small groups introduced a steady stream of virtuoso players to the jazz audience: Charlie Christian, Teddy Wilson, Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, Zoot Sims. His vocalists included Antita O'Day, Helen Humes and Helen Ward. He collaborated with talents as diverse as Louis Armstrong, George benson and Igor Stravinsky.
