"The CD's title is apt. Vocalist Daniel Matto sings from a time and place that no longer exists, but should. You get his vibe in full cry on "You Don't Know What Love Is." The arrangement lovingly supports the sad, knowing lyrics with what sounds like a performance in a smoky nightclub in the '50s. Matto's voice is rich-toned without being cloying. His style is clearly influenced by Frank Sinatra, less so by Harry Connick. His repertoire covers jazz standards like "Angel Eyes" and "All Or Nothing At All," but also includes the Doors' "Love Her Madly" and Santana's "Black Magic Woman." Some spots, like the rhythmic change-ups in "Love Her Madly," might have been rethought had the recording had an experienced producer. As it is, the transplanted Australian is in good company with pianist Holly Arsenault, whose sensitive interpretations are beautifully voiced and are happily lacking cliches. Put this CD on and time travel to a place of clinking martini glasses and no worries about economies melting down." - Glen Hall
